Blues, Brews, and BBQ

Come to Athletic Park on Saturday, Sept. 28, for Newton’s biggest party of the year. Bands, food trucks, vendors, plus kegs of Kansas craft brews, as well as domestic cans and wine. The show is free and open to the public. Doors open at 4 p.m. Music starts at 6. The event lasts as long as we’re having a good time! And so you feel good about spending your hard-earned money on an awesome night out, know you’re helping fund Harvey County Now and local journalism.

Amanda Fish — Fish is an electrifying singer-songwriter who combines soulful lyrics with “from-the-gut” vocals.
She will be coming off her third produced album, “Kingdom,” released in the summer of 2024. She’s previously been lauded with the 2019 Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Album. In 2018, her album “Free” debuted at No. 6 on Blues Album Charts. She has toured extensively through the United States and Canada.

Lynn Avants and the Shadow Daddys — Lynn Avants, previously of the well-known Wichita band Bag of Blues, will return to the stage to open the event. Avants is a skilled guitarist and should bring an Americana flair with both covers and original numbers. Avants goes on at 6 p.m.

The event will feature plenty of craft beers on tap from brewers such as Sandhills, Salt City, Walnut River and more to be announced. The concert features the return of Off the Record Ale from Walnut River. Off the Record Ale is an exclusive beer just for our concert. You won’t want to miss it. There will also be domestic cans and wine available.

There will also be local food truck favorites, such as Wings and Tails and Taco Mike’s, feeding the hungry crowd. We’ll keep updating as we add a few more delicious options.

Wings & Tails – The local food truck keeps the barbecue in Blues, Brews and Barbecue. Family run and out of Peabody, CJ and crew serve up the smoke, the sauce and lots of tasty plates.

Taco Mike’s – It’s not barbecue, but no party’s a Newton party without fried flour tacos. Mike and crew make some of the best in the region, along with other homemade items and salsa that will light you up, all using Grandma Helen Corona’s family recipes. If you’ve ever tried to brave the line to try them at Taste of Newton, you understand how good their food is.
