Arts & Culture
From performing and visual arts to cultural experiences, the Newton community supports the arts for all ages. Residents enjoy performances by a local symphony, several galleries, are offered regular art classes for all ages and abilities and have easy access to the many performances and exhibitions at Bethel College. Additionally, we have three museums, a mural trail, and a new library is in the works.
Community Events
Events are a cornerstone in the Newton community. Downtown provides a gathering place for car shows, street festivals, parades and more. Other activities include a summer festival in Athletic Park, holiday events, and special presentations.
Health & Wellness
Newton residents seeking to improve and maintain their health have many resources. The YMCA is part of the well-regarded Greater Wichita YMCA. Newton Rec Center and a number of private gyms offer additional options. Newton Medical System's hospital and area clinics offer award-winning care for residents throughout the region.
Food
With more than two dozen locally owned restaurants, Newton residents can satisfy any craving. Local flavors include choices from our Mennonite roots, small batch ice cream made downtown, authentic Mexican food, wood-fired pizza and several food trucks.
Recreation and Parks
Inside and outside, there is no shortage of recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. 18 public parks and miles of trails run along Sand Creek through the heart of the city. Traditional golfers and disc golfers also have several options. Youth and adult leagues feature a variety of sports from football and softball to swimming. Indoors, there's no reason to leave town for cosmic bowling or first run movies. Two county parks just outside the city offer boating, fishing, hiking and camping.
